The Olympics – Part I

The Armstrong family has Olympic fever something fierce. We couldn’t have asked for better placement in terms of parental leave, since we’ve been completely free to stroll through the city and keep tabs on all the events. Whether it’s watching Bilodeau win our first Gold on Canadian soil on TV, or strolling through the different provincial and national houses, we’ve been having an absolute blast. The roaring cheers that rumble through the city and the buzzing excitement of everyone on the street mean that it’s impossible to not be happy and excited for every event.
So far, we’ve been able to watch the fireworks and water show at LiveCity Yaletown, the fire, laser and light show at Robson square, watch Maelle Ricker win gold on the screens at Robson Square, visit the Swiss, German, Russian, Saskatchewan, Quebec and Francophonie Houses, see the Olympic cauldron and rings, and see the flame twice, once on its regular route, and once from afar as Gretzky carried it to light the cauldron.
We’ve also had lots of guests to enjoy it with us, from Michelle parents and my sister, to aunts and cousins and friends from the Island and even further (like Sydney, Australia).
Belle has been a rockstar as well, sleeping through most of it in her sling, though she did make the lineup for the German house a little bit loud, and needed an immediate feed once we got inside. She also got us through a two hour lineup for the Russian house in about two seconds, just by being a baby, so that was fantastic. She did got a little upset last night when the Americans beat us at hockey, but that’s totally understandable.
Tonight we’re off to see our women’s hockey team take on Finland, and Belle will hang out with honorary aunt and uncle Craig and Katie, so wish us all luck!
