Isabelle turns three!

Quick birthday update! Yesterday Isabelle turned three and we celebrated in Victoria at my parents’ house with family and a ton of Tinkerbell decorations. She awoke to balloons, an umbrella and a party dress, and the day just kept getting better. Cousins Maddie, Mollie and Anna were the little attendees, with Kathleen and Brian, Brian’s parents, and my cousins Heather and Megan rounding out the party. Fancy cupcakes and great company made for an amazing birthday party, and a much need afternoon nap for pretty much everyone.

Darcy and Rich Visit for Thanksgiving!

Here’s one from the archives!

Back in October, our good friends Darcy and Richard stopped in on their way across the country. We had a great time catching up, unleashing Isabelle on them, introducing them to Elodie, and enjoyed a great Thanksgiving dinner with them and Matt and Shaz.

Isabelle gets her snow legs.

Since we get pretty busy and occasionally neglect the blog at times, we’re going to start putting in the occasional “breaking news” update, interspersed with the “from the archives” post. So here’s a breaking news update, since it just happened today!
Since our last snowshoe excursion, we ordered Isabelle her own pair of snowshoes in the hopes we could get her out and exercising as well, instead of just coming along for the ride. Today we popped over to Hawrelak Park to break them in and see how she did. Michelle helped her with a quick orientation in the parking lot, and off we went. She picked it up no problem, and we all had a great time! We didn’t cover quite as much ground as usual, but it was tons of fun and we can’t wait to get out again.

Falloween

At the end of September we headed out to Prairie Gardens, north of Edmonton in Bon Accord, for “Falloween” with Matt and Shaz. We’d never been out there before, but we were set on picking up some pumpkins, checking out the corn maze and just exploring the countryside. We discovered that they also had a petting zoo, a gold panning station, a mad scientist show, and more and we all had a great time. Isabelle wasn’t too sure about the mummies wandering around, but she was pretty impressed by the mechanical band, the science show and the pumpkins.

Trip to the Zoo

Edmonton has a small, and slightly depressing, zoo. However, it’s being improved, and back in September we headed out to check on some of the improvements. The new seal habitat is pretty sweet, and they have great plans for further arctic enclosures, so hopefully it will be less guilt-inducing in the future. Isabelle was especially interested in monkeys, owls and snakes this trip.

House Wrecker

We’ve known for awhile that one of the houses across the street was going to be torn down, and finally one day, it was. It was pretty neat to see, actually. They started at around eight in the morning, and by the afternoon all that was left was a big hole. Guy and Shirley had arrived a few days before, so we all sat back and enjoyed the spectacle.

Chalkboards, Potty Charts and Jumperoos

A few new things, as you flip through the pics below:

1. Chalkboard. We added a chalkboard to the wall in the kitchen. So far, Isabelle likes to scribble and play with the chalk dust, but we’re expecting the Mona Lisa in the coming months.

2. Potty Chart. Belle is basically potty trained now… Well, at least when we’re in Edmonton, anyway (the recent trip to Winnipeg was another story). The basic premise of the chart was that a pee in the potty is worth one sticker, and the other was worth two, and for her first completed chart, she received Sesame Street with an Elmo figurine. Extra figurines were granted for various accomplishments (and sometimes temporarily taken away for things like… hallway poop). Anyway, Belle hasn’t used a diaper in over two months now, I think, so that’s kind of nice.

3. Jumperoo. Since trying a few out, we decided that for our second child, we were definitely getting a Circle of Neglect. We shopped around a bit, and settled on a Fisher Price Jumperoo. It’s been a hit so far, and Elodie bounces away like a maniac.

Capital Ex

After our return from BC, we headed to the fair! CapitalEx (formerly known as Klondike Days, and to be known in the future as K-Days) was going on, so we headed out for the afternoon. We’d just been planning to take in the sights, thinking that Belle was too young to go on the rides, but it turned out she was just tall enough, and definitely game. Many rides later, we headed home, tired, content, and possibly a little motion-sick.
